[Financial News] People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk criticized President Lee Jae-myung on the 12th over his playing golf on the day a ceiling collapsed at a commercial building in Daegu, calling it “abandonment of duty.” Regarding the recent surge in President Lee’s social media (SNS) posts, Jang asked, “What kind of communication is it to ignore the people’s calls for a change in the way the country is governed, say only what you want to say, and cater only to your own side?”
At a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Jang said, “These days, President Lee seems to have no interests beyond golf and social media.” He added, “He played golf even as Navy service members were drowning at sea, and played golf with his family even when elderly people’s lives were in danger after a commercial building collapsed.”
Jang said, “When he was mayor of Seongnam, President Lee invoked the ‘Seven Hours of Sewol’ and called it dereliction of duty for the president to be at the official residence.” He asked, “If being at the official residence is dereliction of duty, is being at a golf course abandonment of duty?”
He continued, “The Blue House says [President Lee] received reports at the golf course and gave instructions by phone.” Jang recalled, “Ten years ago, Lee Jae-myung, then mayor of Seongnam, said that a president should receive real-time reports from the scene and direct rescue efforts.” Jang asked, “Is it possible to receive real-time reports and direct rescue efforts while playing golf?” He added, “Why are Lee Jae-myung and ‘Yesterday-Myung’ (yesterday + Jae-myung) so different?”
He pointed out, “During the day, he plays golf with his family, and at night he is busy posting on social media. He posted 116 times last month alone, and has already posted more than 60 times this month in just over 10 days. Yet there is nothing the public actually wants to hear.”
Jang criticized him, saying, “The housing nightmare is blamed on the previous administration, the comprehensive farmland survey on speculators, and he doesn’t even mention the Samjeonix (Samsung Electronics + SK hynix) ETF.” He added, “He can’t say a word to North Korea, which carried out a landmine attack, or Iran, which launched a missile attack, yet he is directing all kinds of attacks solely at Ukraine, which sent North Korean prisoners of war.”
He added, “After writing ‘jwaahage’ and coming under criticism, he lectured his critics that they were overreacting, then used it again, saying it was a popular expression.” He noted, “As ‘Munjo Teollaeyu’ hammers him, he is dragging in everyone from former President Roh Moo-hyun to former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon in an effort to be recognized as the legitimate heir to the left.”
Jang urged him, “Don’t communicate with the golf-course grass during the day or your smartphone at night; communicate with people who will tell you hard truths.” He warned, “There are no golf courses or smartphones in prison. I hope you prepare in advance.”
