【Financial News, Chuncheon = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Gangwon State Governor Woo Sang-ho has completed individual meetings with the mayors and county chiefs of all 18 cities and counties and will begin holding rotating meetings at local sites in person next year.
According to Gangwon State on the 12th, individual meetings between the governor and the mayors and county chiefs, which had continued since the launch of the ninth popularly elected administration, wrapped up with a meeting with the Hongcheon county chief on the 8th. The meetings were held at the provincial government office, where the mayors and county chiefs sat down with the governor to raise local issues and requests and jointly explore ways for the province to provide support and cooperate.
Major infrastructure projects in the province, including the Pocheon–Cheorwon Expressway and the Yongmun–Hongcheon railway, were the main items on the agenda. The discussions also covered a broad range of tasks that the province and cities and counties need to pursue together, including developing Gangwon-style high-tech industries to attract AI data centers and other facilities based on Gangwon State’s clean energy, building public rental housing for young people, and attracting investment in tourism development.
In addition to the individual meetings, the province has also held full-group meetings bringing together the heads of all 18 cities and counties to strengthen cooperation. At a meeting held on August 7, the governor and all the mayors and county chiefs discussed ways for the province, cities and counties to cooperate, and agreed to hold regular meetings twice a year going forward.
Building on the experience of communication gained so far, the province plans to hold rotating meetings across the cities and counties starting next year. The governor will visit each city and county in person to discuss local issues with the mayors and county chiefs, meet with local residents, assess conditions on the ground and work together to find solutions. The province plans to steadily monitor follow-up measures and progress so that key issues raised on site lead to concrete policies and projects, and ultimately to results that residents can feel.
Governor Woo said, “These meetings reaffirmed that there are many issues the province and cities and counties need to tackle together, including highways and railways and high-tech industries that make use of clean energy. Starting next year, I will visit all 18 cities and counties in person, listen to residents, and see through to the end efforts to turn the issues discussed on site into policies and tangible results.”
