[Financial News] Goodwill Store, which creates jobs for people with disabilities by selling donated goods, has opened a new store in Geomdan, Incheon. With four employees with disabilities hired, the total number of jobs for people with disabilities provided through five stores in Incheon has risen to 28.
According to the Milal Welfare Foundation on the 12th, Goodwill Store’s “Milal Incheon Geomdan branch” opened on the 8th. It is the fifth store in Incheon, sponsored by Incheon International Airport Corporation and supported by the Incheon Community Chest of Korea.
The store occupies the entire first floor of the building, with a dedicated floor area of 381.98 square meters. The sales area, donation center and workspace where employees with disabilities sort donated goods are all located in one place.
Goodwill Store is a vocational rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities that employs them using revenue from sales of used goods and new products donated by individuals and businesses. The Milal Welfare Foundation operates 53 stores nationwide.
Goodwill Store employees with disabilities handle a range of tasks, from receiving and collecting goods to logistics, product preparation and sales. Under this model, both donating goods and shopping at the stores provide support for employment of people with disabilities. The sorting of donated goods into saleable products also creates jobs, bringing the reuse of goods together with vocational rehabilitation.
Incheon International Airport Corporation has sponsored the development of stores in Incheon each year, beginning with the Milal Incheon store in 2022. With the opening of the Geomdan branch, it has met its goal of establishing five stores by this year. The cumulative number of people with disabilities employed is 28, including the four newly hired at the Geomdan branch.
Han Sang-uk, head of the Goodwill division at the Milal Welfare Foundation, said, “We will make the Milal Incheon Geomdan branch a key hub where people with disabilities can build a stable foundation for independent living, and Incheon residents can put environmental protection and sharing into practice.”
