[Financial News] Amazon.com, Inc., the world’s largest e-commerce and cloud company, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to acquire AI startup Decart for about $7 billion (about 9.38 trillion won).
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 11th, local time, citing people familiar with the matter, that a deal could be finalized soon unless the talks fall apart or another bidder emerges.
San Francisco-based Decart develops software that helps developers easily switch between different types of AI semiconductor chips as they work. As competition to secure AI computing power has intensified, Decart’s technology, which improves chip compatibility and operational efficiency, has been valued even more highly.
According to market research firm PitchBook, Decart has raised at least $400 million from prominent venture capital firms, including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures. When it raised funding last May, the company was valued at about $4 billion; its valuation has climbed to around $7 billion in just a few months.
Decart was co-founded in 2023 by three people: Israeli engineer brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. The company is also developing Lucy and Oasis, known as “world models,” which generate and simulate 3D environments in the real world.
The acquisition is seen as part of Amazon.com, Inc.’s strategy to strengthen its own AI chip ecosystem to counter NVIDIA Corporation, which dominates the AI semiconductor market.
Amazon.com, Inc. has been developing its own AI chip, Trainium3, to compete with NVIDIA Corporation’s graphics processing units (GPUs). After meeting with Decart’s founders in 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) was deeply impressed by their technology and granted them early access to its Trainium3 chips.
The acquisition would rank among the largest mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals in recent years. Amazon.com, Inc. acquired film and television studio MGM for $6.5 billion in 2022, and earlier this year announced it would acquire Globalstar, a competitor to Starlink, for about $11 billion.
Meanwhile, Israeli financial news outlet Calcalist reported earlier this month that Decart was in the final stages of negotiations to be acquired by a major tech company.
