[Financial News]   Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said on the 11th (local time) that a man had been arrested by police on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack targeting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Minister Kierwiński said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that day, "A man who threatened Prime Minister Tusk and planned an attack has been arrested by Polish police." He did not provide details about the man's identity or the circumstances of the arrest.
Tusk also said in a post on his X account that he was grateful to the police for responding "quickly and decisively."
The arrest came shortly after authorities received information about threats to the safety of Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Polish security authorities responded immediately, obtaining relevant information and convening an emergency meeting of the special services.
Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Special Services, described the tense situation at the time, saying, "I cannot disclose details, but the authorities are treating this threat as 'lethal and extremely serious.'" He added, "The likelihood of an actual terrorist attack being carried out was very high."
The State Protection Service (SOP), which is responsible for protecting officials at ministerial level, reportedly obtained an email containing indications of a terrorist attack plot and immediately handed it over to the police.
Although Poland has a relatively low rate of violent crime, threats against prominent politicians have continued as political polarization has deepened in recent years and security concerns stemming from the war in Ukraine have persisted.
Last August, a 23-year-old man was also arrested by police for inciting the assassination of a senior politician. In 2024, assassination threats against Tusk continued immediately after the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, prompting security authorities to step up their vigilance.
