[Financial News] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyeong-il met with ministers from relevant ministries and Blue House aides to discuss in depth ways to improve rebates on Onnuri gift certificates at traditional markets and measures to manage prices affecting people’s livelihoods.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said Deputy Prime Minister Lee held a meeting on economic issues at 6 p.m. on the 11th and reviewed key livelihood issues, including those outlined above. Government officials attending included Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee So-young, Minister of Planning and Budget Park Hong-geun, and Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Nam Jae-heon. Blue House officials, including Policy Chief Ha Jun-kyung, Senior Secretary for Economic Growth Moon Shin-hak, and Adviser for Fiscal Planning Ryu Deok-hyeon, also joined the discussions.
At the meeting, participants exchanged views across ministries, focusing on a proposal to improve rebates on Onnuri gift certificates at traditional markets and measures to manage prices affecting people’s livelihoods and stabilize prices as consumers experience them.
Earlier, the government held in-depth discussions on plans to overhaul Onnuri gift certificates at the Council of Economic Ministers meeting held on the 1st. The proposed overhaul includes providing benefits of up to 10% when the certificates are used at traditional markets starting next year, as well as various additional benefits, such as rebates on payments made outside the Seoul metropolitan area and discounts at tourist attractions.
The government plans to finalize its specific policy after further consultations among ministries and gathering opinions from various sectors, based on the discussions at the meeting.
