[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump has floated renaming the Atlantic and Pacific, following the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.
According to the U.S. daily The Washington Post (WP) on the 10th (local time), President Trump said, “We have a gulf and a beautiful lake, too,” referring to the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, which he had renamed the Gulf of America and Lake America, respectively.
Trump then said, “I think we should have at least one ocean before I leave office. And we need a great river, too.” He added, “I’m thinking of the Atlantic or the Pacific,” and said, “I’d like to rename it ‘Trump Ocean’ or ‘America Ocean.’”

Earlier, upon taking office early last year, President Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. This led to diplomatic tensions with the United Mexican States, and he also barred an Associated Press reporter who insisted on calling it the Gulf of Mexico from entering the White House.
Also last August, he signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario, which lies along the U.S.-Canada border, Lake America, provoking Canada.
