[The Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump urged his supporters to vote, claiming that the U.S. economy would fall into recession if the opposition Democratic Party won the November midterm elections.
On the 10th (local time), President Trump said in a campaign speech in Clarksville, Tennessee, a Republican stronghold, “If the Democrats win, you will experience a Great Depression like the one in 1929,” adding, “All you have to do is vote Republican.”
From the outset of his speech, President Trump urged voters to “vote as if I were running,” claiming, “You have to get out and vote because the communist, socialist Democrats are going to commit election fraud.” He added, “We have to win by so much that (the Democrats) can’t rig this election. Early voting in Tennessee starts on October 14, so let’s win big.”
On high oil prices resulting from the war with Iran, President Trump said, “We’ve lowered prices across the board, and oil prices are lower than they were under Biden,” and stressed, “We’ve resolved the Iran nuclear issue. As soon as we end the war, oil prices will drop sharply, and the war will end soon.”
President Trump also said that foreign companies were making substantial investments in the United States because of his tariff policies, and mentioned South Korean company Korea Zinc’s investment in Tennessee. He said, “Thanks to my tariff policies, Korea Zinc is investing more than $6 billion (about 8 trillion won) right here in Montgomery County and Smith County to create 740 jobs,” adding, “A new mineral smelter will be built—the first to be built in the United States since 1979.”
