[Financial News] With the official events for the film “Assassin(s)” canceled over safety concerns for the cast and crew, lead actor Park Hae-il attended the Busan International Film Festival with another film. He attended an event related to “Waikiki Brothers” and met with audiences.
An event for Community BIFF, part of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, was held on the 8th at Megabox Busan Theater in Jung-gu, Busan. Park Hae-il took part in an event related to a screening of “Waikiki Brothers,” in which he appeared.
The event was organized to mark the 30th anniversary of director Im Soon-rye’s feature-film debut. Park also took the stage alongside Im and spoke with the audience.
While meeting with audiences, Park Hae-il also recounted seeing the shark “Bukang-i” in Busan. He said, “I went and saw Bukang-i too.” He then expressed his affection for his debut film, saying, “I’m happy that ‘Waikiki Brothers’ was my debut film.”
Another film starring Park Hae-il, “Assassin(s),” adds cinematic imagination to the 1974 shooting of Yuk Young-soo. Since its release, it has drawn criticism for distorting history, and opposition from some far-right groups and YouTubers has continued.
Protests targeting the actors also took place. Some group members and YouTubers held a rally outside Yoo Hae-jin’s home, demanding an apology from the actor and the production team.
In this situation, the production team behind “Assassin(s)” canceled scheduled events at the Busan International Film Festival and elsewhere, citing the safety of the actors and others involved. Yoo Hae-jin also won the Best Actor award at the 35th Buil Film Awards for “The Man Who Lives with the King,” but did not attend the ceremony.
