[Financial News] The Blue House said on the 11th that President Lee Jae-myung had visited Taereung Golf Course the previous day and received a report there about the collapse of a commercial building’s ceiling in Daegu, then ordered rescue efforts and a response to the accident.
The Blue House spokesperson’s office announced this to the press that day.
According to the Blue House, President Lee visited Taereung Golf Course with his family the previous day and received a report about the collapse of a commercial building’s ceiling in Daegu.
President Lee then spoke directly by phone with acting National Police Agency Commissioner Kim Jong-cheol and received a detailed report on the casualties, whether there had been any fatalities, and the extent of the injuries. He then instructed the relevant agencies to make every effort to rescue people and ensure a swift and safe response to the accident.
The Blue House also explained why it had unusually disclosed the president’s private holiday schedule.
The Blue House spokesperson’s office said, “Our principle is not to confirm the president’s undisclosed schedule or private holiday schedule, but we are making an exception and disclosing it to prevent unnecessary controversy over the undisclosed holiday schedule.”
It went on to emphasize, “The Blue House expresses regret over the use of the president’s private, undisclosed schedule for political sparring.”
The Blue House’s unusual, proactive disclosure of the president’s undisclosed schedule is understood to have been prompted by People Power Party lawmaker Joo Jin-woo’s announcement that he would hold a related press conference that day at the National Assembly Communication Building.
The Blue House’s position is that, given speculation that President Lee may meet U.S. President Donald Trump for a round of golf in Miami, Florida, in December, on the occasion of the G20 summit, that day’s schedule should likewise be viewed as an extension of preparations for diplomatic activities. The Blue House is understood to have expressed regret, viewing efforts to turn the matter into a political controversy as excessive political bickering.
