[Financial News] In the after-hours market, the stock individual investors net bought the most was Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Preferred Shares. Foreign investors, by contrast, bought the most SK hynix shares.
According to data from the Korea Exchange (KRX) and Koscom Check on the 11th, individual investors made their largest net purchases of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Preferred Shares in the exchange’s after-hours market, which operates from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., over the period from the 14th of last month through the 8th of this month.
During that period, individual investors net bought 72.3 billion won worth of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Preferred Shares, an average of about 4.52 billion won per day. They also bought 67.53 billion won worth of Samsung Electronics common shares. Net purchases were next largest in Hanwha Aerospace, at 4.47 billion won, followed by Isu Petasys at 3.59 billion won and DB HiTek at 3.53 billion won.
Conversely, SK hynix was the stock individual investors sold most heavily. Net sales totaled 92.14 billion won. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, at 31.53 billion won; Hyundai Mobis, at 12.83 billion won; Doosan Enerbility, at 10.55 billion won; and KEPCO Engineering & Construction, at 8.01 billion won, also ranked among the stocks with the largest net sales.
Foreign investors traded in the opposite direction from individual investors. They net bought 101.54 billion won worth of SK hynix, the largest net purchase, and also bought 33.01 billion won worth of Samsung Electro-Mechanics. By contrast, they net sold 83.11 billion won worth of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Preferred Shares and 50.49 billion won worth of Samsung Electronics common shares.
The stock with the largest net purchases by institutional investors was Doosan Enerbility, at 13.15 billion won. Samsung Electronics had the largest net sales, with 15.71 billion won worth sold.
In the regular session, both individual and foreign investors ranked Samsung Electronics and SK hynix among their top net-selling stocks. In the after-hours market, however, trading directions differed by investor group.
By trading value, Nextrade (NXT)’s after-hours market outpaced KRX. Over 16 trading days, NXT’s average daily trading value was 1.7008 trillion won, about 1.35 times KRX’s 1.2645 trillion won.
However, KRX had higher trading volume, averaging about 55,922,000 shares a day compared with NXT’s 11,737,000. The average daily trading value in KRX’s after-hours market was about 4.78% of that in the regular session.
Trading values differed by market. For KOSPI-listed stocks, NXT averaged 1.5129 trillion won a day, more than KRX’s 771.2 billion won. In contrast, in the KOSDAQ market, KRX recorded 493.3 billion won, more than 2.5 times NXT’s 187.9 billion won.

In this regard, differences in the stocks available for trading may have played a role. NXT trades only a limited selection of stocks, mainly blue chips, while the exchange’s after-hours market also allows trading in stocks that are not eligible for trading on NXT.
Individual investors accounted for most trading in KRX’s after-hours market. They made up the largest share of total trading value, at 89.4%, followed by foreign investors at 7.9% and institutions at 1.6%.
