[Financial News] Lotte held the Super Blue Marathon, where people with and without disabilities run together, and launched efforts to improve awareness of people with disabilities.
Industry sources said on the 11th that Lotte held the 11th Super Blue Marathon on the 9th in collaboration with Special Olympics Korea, around Peace Plaza in World Cup Park in Sangam, Seoul.
The Super Blue Marathon is an event where people with and without disabilities run together wearing blue shoelaces, which symbolize hope and independence for people with disabilities. Since the event began in 2015, around 90,000 people have participated through this year.
About 8,000 people with and without disabilities took part in this year’s event. Rather than focusing on times and rankings, participants valued running together and cheering each other on, reflecting anew on the event’s goal of improving awareness of people with disabilities.
Lotte chose “On Hangul Day, share beautiful words with people with disabilities” as the theme of the event, held on Hangul Day, and ran a campaign encouraging the proper use of language. The finisher medals also bore the event’s name in Korean instead of its previous English name.
Lotte affiliates also supported the event. Lotty and Lorry, Lotte World’s signature characters, cheered on participants at the venue, while Lotte Wellfood, Lotte Chilsung Beverage, and Korea Seven provided snacks.
A Lotte representative said, “The Super Blue Marathon is a social contribution initiative designed to help people with and without disabilities run together and understand each other’s differences,” adding, “We will continue to plan a range of activities to improve awareness of people with disabilities.”
