[Financial News] Part of the ceiling collapsed at a grocery store in Daegu, injuring 38 customers. All 66 people who were in the store at the time evacuated outside, and 9 of the injured were taken to hospital.
According to the Daegu Fire and Safety Headquarters and other sources, part of the ceiling came down at around 10:16 a.m. on the 10th at a grocery store in Gwaneum-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. Dozens of customers were injured as they rushed toward the exits, startled by the sudden accident.
Fire authorities counted a total of 38 injured people. Nine were taken to hospital, while the remaining injured were found to have suffered minor injuries, such as abrasions. So far, no one is known to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Many of the injured were hurt while hurriedly evacuating after the ceiling collapsed. Fire authorities said some customers suffered injuries, including scrapes from debris from the building.
There were 66 people inside the store at the time of the accident. They made their way outside on their own immediately after the ceiling collapsed. Firefighters conducted an additional search inside but found no one who had been unable to evacuate and no other casualties.
Police deployed personnel around the accident site and controlled vehicle traffic. Fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the ceiling collapse after completing their search inside.
