[Financial News] The Institute for Advanced Public Safety Science and Technology at KNPU has received national accreditation for its capabilities in narcotics testing and analysis, following its accreditation in handwriting and document examination.
KNPU announced on the 11th that its Institute for Advanced Public Safety Science and Technology received accreditation on the 17th of last month from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) in the forensic testing field of “regulated substances (narcotics).”
In accordance with international standards, KOLAS comprehensively evaluates the quality management systems and technical capabilities of testing and inspection bodies, and officially accredits institutions capable of conducting tests and inspections in specific fields.
The Institute for Advanced Public Safety Science and Technology received KOLAS accreditation in handwriting and document examination last December and has now expanded its accredited scope to include narcotics. The significance, it said, lies in strengthening standardization and quality management for narcotics testing and analysis amid the successive emergence of new and variant narcotics.
The institute plans to incorporate research and development results related to the detection, identification and analysis of narcotics—including AI-based drug-detection technology—into its testing, analysis and quality management systems. It also plans to apply these results to forensic evidence examinations and broaden their use in the field of public safety.
It is also pursuing an expansion of its KOLAS accreditation scope in DNA. Its plan is to secure accredited testing capabilities step by step in key areas of forensic science.
Yoo Seung-jin, a professor at KNPU’s Institute for Advanced Public Safety Science and Technology, said, “We will continue to advance our forensic testing and analysis capabilities so that the results of advanced scientific policing research and development can be used reliably in education, research and the field of public safety.”
