[Financial News] Russia has decided to lift export restrictions to supply additional diesel to global markets, including the United States, as early as this month.
According to Reuters and other outlets, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced after a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on the 9th (local time) that Russia would begin immediately lifting restrictions on diesel exports.
Russia said it could supply 300,000 tonnes of diesel to global markets this month and expected to be able to increase export volumes in November and December, when maintenance at its refineries is completed.
Earlier, President Trump said that Russia had agreed, following consultations with President Putin, to supply diesel to the United States and global markets. The supply volumes are at least 300,000 tonnes immediately, 500,000 tonnes in November, and 1 million tonnes thereafter. He said an additional 3 million tonnes could also be supplied, depending on refinery operating conditions.
The U.S. government followed suit by introducing temporary sanctions relief measures allowing the sale of Russian diesel and its import into the United States, among other things.
