[Financial News] After visiting in person on the 9th to inspect the planned site for a semiconductor-specialized complex in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won instructed executives to “work closely with the government and local governments to build the southwestern semiconductor cluster as quickly as possible.”
SK hynix said Chey made the request to executives immediately after meeting that day with officials, including Min Hyung-bae, mayor of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, and listening to briefings on plans for developing the industrial complex and preparations for key infrastructure, including the site, power, water, and transportation.
An SK hynix official said, “Global demand for AI memory semiconductors is surging, accelerating market growth further, while competition is also becoming increasingly fierce.” The official added, “With strong support from the government and local governments, we will continue investing at a brisk pace and contribute to helping South Korea strengthen its dominance in AI semiconductors.”
