[Financial News] Anne Carson, a leading figure in 20th-century Canadian literature, has won this year's Nobel Prize in Literature, and her signature work ‘Autobiography of Red’ has topped the daily bestseller list.
On the 9th, the book, published in 2024 by Hankyoreh Publishing Company, took the No. 1 spot on Kyobo Book Centre's daily bestseller list after news of the award broke. Carson climbed 501 places to reach No. 1 in the author rankings.
‘Autobiography of Red’ is the acclaimed work that brought Carson widespread recognition. It was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The book retells an episode from the tenth of Heracles' 12 labors in Greek mythology, not from the hero's perspective but from that of Geryon, the red monster he shot dead with an arrow.
According to Kyobo Book Centre, sales of Anne Carson's books from 8 p.m. the previous day, when the Nobel laureate was announced, until 9 a.m. on the 9th rose to 138 times their pre-announcement level.
A total of nine of Carson's books are currently available in Korea. Translated editions include ‘Eros, the Bittersweet,’ ‘Short Talks,’ ‘Glass, Irony, and God,’ and ‘Plainwater’ (all published by Nanda Publishers); ‘Autobiography of Red,’ ‘The Beauty of the Husband,’ and ‘Red Doc>’ (all published by Hankyoreh Publishing); and ‘Float’ and ‘Nox’ (both published by Bomnal Books).
