From around midnight that day, access errors occurred from the opening screen onward on the Coupang, Coupang Eats, and Coupang Play apps and websites. The only message displayed was, “The network connection is unstable. Check your connection and try again.”
From around 1 a.m., users could access the main screen of the Coupang app, but problems continued, including the same notice appearing again when they clicked on a product or being unable to log in.
Coupang’s logistics website also experienced access errors. As a result, it was reported that delivery drivers also faced difficulties, including when confirming that Coupang deliveries had been completed.
The access errors were resolved at around 2:30 a.m. that same day.
Coupang announced on its website and elsewhere, “Temporary errors occurred across Coupang’s services during a service upgrade, but the issue has been resolved and the services are now available as normal.” It also notified customers who had contacted its customer service center by text message that Coupang’s services had returned to normal.
Amid heightened concerns about security incidents following a series of recent hacking attacks targeting the financial sector, Coupang reportedly believes the access errors occurred during an update and has begun working to determine the exact cause.
