【Financial News, Jeju—by Jeong Yong-bok】 Tourists visiting Jeju during the three-day holiday beginning on Hangul Day, the 9th, should keep an eye on the forecast for weekend rain. The first day of the holiday will be occasionally cloudy, but 5–40 mm of rain is expected in parts of Jeju from the morning of the 10th through the night of the 11th.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 9th, Jeju will be occasionally cloudy that day, with a daytime high of 25–26°C. That is higher than the seasonal average high of 22.8–24.6°C. With a large difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, people should take care of their health.
The weather will change starting Saturday the 10th. Jeju will be mostly cloudy, with rain beginning in some areas between 9 a.m. and noon. Cloudy conditions are forecast to continue on the 11th, with occasional rain in some areas. A total of 5–40 mm of rain is expected across Jeju from the morning of the 10th through late at night on the 11th.
Rain is also in the forecast for the 12th, after the holiday ends. There will be occasional rain in places, mainly in eastern Jeju, from the early morning through the morning, followed by mostly cloudy skies in the afternoon.
Temperatures will remain above seasonal averages despite the rain. On the 10th, the morning low is expected to be 19–20°C and the daytime high 25–27°C. On the 11th, morning lows will be 21–22°C and daytime highs 25–27°C. The daytime temperature will also rise to 26–27°C on the 12th, making for relatively mild weather.
Temperatures are lower in mountainous areas, including Hallasan. The morning low at Seongpanak is forecast to be 14°C on the 10th and 16°C on the 11th. Trails may be slippery while it is raining, so hikers should bring waterproof gear and a change of clothes.
Sea conditions will also change around the weekend. Waves in waters off Jeju will be relatively low, at 0.5–1 m, on the 9th, but will gradually rise from the 10th. Wave heights in waters off eastern Jeju are expected to reach up to 2 m on the 10th and 11th, while those in southern waters are also forecast to reach up to 2 m on the 11th.
Waves in the inner offshore waters southeast of Jeju and the outer offshore waters to the south are expected to rise to as high as 2.5 m on the 10th and 11th. In particular, winds of 8–12 m/s are forecast in waters off eastern Jeju on the afternoon of the 10th and the morning of the 11th, so caution is advised for marine activities.

A large influx of tourists is also expected in Jeju over the holiday.
The Jeju Tourism Association expects about 165,000 people to visit Jeju by air and sea over the four days from the 8th through the 11th. That would be a 0.6% increase from the 164,032 visitors during the same period last year.
The expected number of arrivals on Jeju by date is 48,000 on the 8th, 45,000 on Hangul Day, the 9th, 37,000 on the 10th and 35,000 on the 11th. Of these, 117,000 arrivals are expected over the three days from Hangul Day through Sunday.
Of the visitors expected over the four days, 144,500 are expected to arrive by air and 20,500 by ship. There will be 891 arriving domestic flights, down from last year, while international flights will total 144, a 20% increase from last year.
With rain forecast during a period of concentrated tourist travel, outdoor sightseeing and experiential events may need to adjust their schedules to account for changing weather.
The weather in Jeju over the Hangul Day holiday is set to differ markedly between the first day, the 9th, and the weekend, the 10th and 11th. As rain is forecast to begin on the morning of the 10th, residents and tourists planning outdoor activities or travel by sea should check the latest forecast.
