[Financial News] Creator Park We, who suspended his activities amid controversy over releasing CCTV footage of a KTX fall accident, is now facing allegations that his family treated their daughter-in-law differently. A YouTube video documenting his everyday life has resurfaced across online communities, sparking heated debate among netizens.
Recently, posts about the video ‘Her First Chuseok at Her In-Laws’ Home,’ which was posted on the YouTube channel WERACLE, run by Park We, in September 2024, have appeared in succession on online communities and social media. The video shows Song Ji-eun, formerly of the group Secret and then preparing to marry Park We, visiting her in-laws and spending the holiday with Park We’s parents and actress Yoon So-hee, known as the foster daughter of Park Chan-hong, a producer and Park We’s father.
Some netizens questioned whether Song Ji-eun had been treated differently or excluded, citing the family’s behavior in the video. They pointed out that while the other family members and Yoon So-hee used matching tableware at the meal, Song alone had a different bowl. Others criticized Park We for naming Yoon So-hee before his wife, Song Ji-eun, in the pre-meal prayer, his parents for focusing their praise on Yoon, whose parents were KAIST graduates, and the family for offering holiday greetings only to Yoon as they wrapped up a video call.
An anecdote Song Ji-eun had previously mentioned on a broadcast also came under scrutiny. Song had said on MBC variety shows, including ‘Radio Star,’ that her mother-in-law had passed down clothes and pajamas she cherished. Some saw this as a lack of consideration, while others countered that expressions of affection within the family were being misinterpreted; both sides held firm.
Many online also urged caution, saying it was excessive ‘overinterpretation’ and a ‘witch hunt’ to draw conclusions about the actual mother-in-law-daughter-in-law relationship or family dynamics based solely on isolated moments from an edited video of everyday life.
The latest controversy erupted as Park We’s past actions came under renewed scrutiny following the fallout over a KTX accident video involving him. Earlier, Park posted on YouTube CCTV footage of an accident in which he tripped over a social service worker’s foot and fell while getting off a KTX train in his wheelchair. He was criticized for making the issue public to excess without considering the worker’s position, even though the worker had already apologized at the scene.
As criticism mounted at the time, Park We apologized, saying, “The way I communicated it was immature, and I hadn’t thought it through,” announced that he would suspend his YouTube activities, and voluntarily resigned as a Seoul Metropolitan Government goodwill ambassador. But even after his formal apology, disputes over the truth of past content and critical reinterpretations have continued, and the controversy has yet to die down.
