[Financial News] Amid controversy surrounding the film 'Assassin(s),' actor Yoo Hae-jin won Best Actor at the 35th Buil Film Awards for 'The King's Warden.' Yoo could not attend the ceremony because of his filming schedule.
The 35th Buil Film Awards ceremony was held on the 7th at the Grand Ballroom of Signiel Busan in Jung-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan. The organizers announced the list of winners, including Yoo Hae-jin, on the 8th.
'The King's Warden,' which earned Yoo Hae-jin the Best Actor award, drew 16.93 million moviegoers. In the film, Yoo played a village chief who watches over a king after he is deposed and banished to the countryside.
Meanwhile, Yoo Hae-jin also starred in 'Assassin(s),' a film that has recently faced accusations of distorting history. As debate over the film continued, calls emerged online to boycott products advertised by Yoo and to replace him as an advertising model.
Protests against Yoo Hae-jin also led to rallies. A conservative group held a rally denouncing him outside a detached house in Seoul's Seongbuk-gu, said to be Yoo's home. After threatening comments were posted online, police began taking measures to protect Yoo.
At the ceremony, Yoo Hae-jin's award was accepted on his behalf by Im Eun-jeong, CEO of production company Onda Works. Im said, "Actor Yoo Hae-jin couldn't join us here because of his filming schedule," and added, "I would like to express my deepest gratitude to director Jang Hang-jun, all the staff and actors, and above all, the audience who have loved the film. I will make sure the award is delivered to actor Yoo Hae-jin."
In other major categories, 'Master of the World,' directed by Yoon Ga-eun, won Best Picture. Best Director went to Na Hong-jin for 'Hope.' Seo Su-bin, who appeared in 'Master of the World,' won Best Actress; Yeom Hye-ran won Best Supporting Actress for 'No Other Choice'; and Eum Moon-seok won Best Supporting Actor for 'Hope'.
