Sejong City and the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation announced on the 8th that they will hold the “2026 Hangul Culture Special Exhibition: Sejong and Namjun” at the Biennale Exhibition Hall from Hangul Day, October 9, through November 8.
The exhibition was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day and the opening of the Biennale Exhibition Hall, and to promote the first Sejong Hangul Biennale in 2027. It presents King Sejong and Nam June Paik, who proposed new ways of communication through writing and media of the electronic age, as “creative innovators.”
The exhibition is divided into three sections: “Communication: Hangul and Video Art,” “Collaboration: Jiphyeonjeon and Fluxus,” and “Art Expanding Beyond Boundaries.” It brings together around 90 works, including documents and artifacts from the era of King Sejong and works by Nam June Paik.
On display are the Hunminjeongeum Haerye Manuscript, Yongbieocheonga, and Worin Cheongangjigok, as well as Nam June Paik’s works “King Sejong,” “TV Buddha,” and “Autobiography in the Womb.” The second section, on “Jiphyeonjeon and Fluxus,” features texts including Nongsa Jikseol (Straight Talk on Farming) and Hyangyak Jipseongbang (Compendium of Native Prescriptions), as well as a rain gauge, an armillary sphere, and a simplified armillary sphere. The third section includes stone chimes and bronze bells, along with Paik’s “TV Cello” and “Global Groove.”
The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed every Monday. Hands-on programs for children are held on weekends, and citizen docents lead exhibition tours at 2 and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
