【Financial News, Chuncheon = Kim Gi-seop】Gangwon Development Corporation employees and youth supporters carried tongs and bags as they picked up litter left along the stream and throughout the food alley in Seoksadong, Chuncheon, and tidied the neighborhood streets.
Gangwon Development Corporation said on the 8th that it held a volunteer plogging activity that day around Seoksadong, with its ESG (environmental, social and governance) and innovation supporters joining employees. The activity areas were selected in advance in consultation with the Seoksadong Administrative Welfare Center. Areas identified by the center as needing cleanup were prioritized, so efforts would reach places where residents were experiencing significant inconvenience. The corporation partnered with a local administrative agency to provide service tailored to needs on the ground, rather than hold a publicity event.
Participants split into groups and took charge of areas around the administrative welfare center, along the stream, and in Seumusup Food Alley. Walking through everyday spaces that residents frequently visit to take walks and dine, they collected cigarette butts, disposable items and other everyday litter, and tidied the surrounding area.
The participation of young people also drew attention. The corporation runs ESG and innovation supporters to incorporate young people's perspectives and ideas into its ESG and innovation management, and the supporters joined employees in cleaning up the streets that day.
The corporation will continue plogging as a regular activity through the end of the year. Following the first activity that day, it plans to hold similar volunteer events on November 6 and December 4, for a total of three activities, continuing its ESG efforts with the local community.
Kim Tae-heon, president of Gangwon Development Corporation, said, “In coordination with the administrative welfare center, we selected the areas and cleaned up first in places residents frequent, such as along the stream and in Seumusup Food Alley.” He added, “With ideas from the youth supporters, we will continue our activities in November and December and carry out social contribution initiatives that let residents truly feel their neighborhood has changed.”
