Hanyang University Professor Lee Hoon honored with Presidential Commendation for 20 years of training tourism professionals and advising on policy

[Financial News] Hanyang University announced on the 8th that Professor Lee Hoon of its Department of Tourism had received the Presidential Commendation at the 53rd Tourism Day ceremony for his contributions to the development of the domestic tourism industry.
For around 20 years, Professor Lee has trained tourism professionals at the university and taken the lead in bringing academic research beyond the lab and into practical tourism policies and industry settings at the government and local government levels. He was particularly recognized for his extensive participation in policy consultations, drawing on field-oriented research on local tourism, sustainable tourism, festivals and events.
From 2021 to 2023, he also served as the 26th president of the Tourism Sciences Society of Korea, significantly expanding exchanges and cooperation among academia, industry and government agencies. He currently serves as co-chair of the National Assembly Tourism Industry Forum, which brings together members of the National Assembly and experts, and is working to enhance the tourism industry’s competitiveness and change related laws and institutions.
The commendation was presented at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Association (Central), held at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul on October 30. At this year’s Tourism Day ceremony, 23 people who contributed to the promotion of the tourism industry received government awards. The Presidential Commendation went to six people in total, including Professor Lee.
