[Financial News] Women are more sensitive than men to their partners’ spelling mistakes, a survey found.
NRISE, which operates the social dating app WIPPY, released the results of a survey on perceptions of dating partners’ spelling ahead of Hangeul Day on the 9th. The survey was conducted among 518 users.
According to NRISE on the 8th, 70.9% of female respondents said they ‘understand’ breaking up with a partner for repeatedly making spelling mistakes, a substantial difference from male respondents (38.8%). Among female respondents, 80.6% said they had experienced losing interest or ending a conversation because of spelling errors.
The most bothersome misspelling was ‘I hope you give birth to your cold soon’ (46.1%), which ranked first. The most common reason spelling affects attraction was ‘they seem to lack basic language skills’ (60.6%). However, at least 80% of both men and women reacted positively to having their own mistakes pointed out.
Lee Ji-hye, WIPPY’s product owner, said, “In online dating, where first impressions are formed through messages, spelling and tone can offer clues to a person’s language habits and conversational attitude.” She added, “Since female users were especially likely to have experienced spelling errors actually diminishing their interest and leading them to end conversations, it’s a good idea to take another look at basic expressions, along with using a natural tone, when talking with someone new.”
