“My alma mater gave me my standing; I want to give back to juniors” ... Ewha alum donates 100 million won to development fund

[Financial News] Ewha Womans University said on the 8th that alum Han Jae-wook, a graduate of its Department of Mathematics, donated 100 million won to the Ewha New Era Development Fund to improve the university’s research and educational environment.
The donation was made with the aim of giving back to juniors and society the benefits Han received from the university over some 20 years of teaching and social activities.
Han, who turns 70 this year, said, “Since graduating, I have been recognized throughout society thanks to my alma mater’s name, and I have always wanted to do something for the university.” Han added, “I wanted to contribute, even in a small way, to the development of Ewha under President Lee Hyang-sook, a fellow mathematics graduate,” sharing his thoughts on the donation.
Ewha Womans University plans to use the funds for campus facility improvements, as well as research and educational programs that help students grow into leaders who will shape their times.
Lee Hyang-sook, president of Ewha Womans University, said, “I am sincerely grateful that, after your steadfast support for the university over the years, you have so readily made such a substantial donation.” Lee added, “We will do our utmost to help Ewha Womans University rise to become a world-class university and meet the expectations of its alumni.” The fund presentation ceremony was held on September 30 at the university’s main building in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Attendees included the donor, Han, Han’s daughter Jo Sua, a graduate of the Department of Business Administration, fellow alum Kim Kyung-ran, President Lee, Park Jeong-su, vice president for research and external affairs, and other university officials.
