【JAKARTA, Indonesia】As retail sales of Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) posted a sharp increase to 1,756 units in August, the company is eyeing growth potential in Indonesia’s mid- to high-end car market. (Aulia Maulida Hamdani, correspondent)
Local media reported on the 8th that, according to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO), Hyundai’s retail sales rose from 1,261 units in June to 1,451 in July and 1,756 in August, marking a second consecutive month of growth. Cumulative sales from January to August this year totaled 12,204 units.
Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, HMID’s chief operating officer (COO), said in Jakarta the previous day, “Even amid economic pressures, Indonesian consumers have the purchasing power to buy vehicles, and demand is also emerging in the premium segment.”
To meet this demand, Hyundai is successively introducing mid- to high-end models, including the Santa Fe Hybrid, the second-generation Hyundai Palisade, and the Hyundai Ioniq 9 EV. In particular, the Ioniq 9 EV is priced at 1.62 billion rupiah (about 120 million won), the highest price point among Hyundai SUVs sold in Indonesia.
Fransiscus, HMID’s COO, said, “Hyundai’s premium image, technology and design are values Indonesian consumers have already recognized,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen that market.” At the same time, Hyundai is demonstrating its competitiveness in the low- to mid-priced segment with the Creta and Stargazer at the forefront. It is also pursuing sales strategies aimed at a range of consumer groups, including adjusting the Stargazer’s price at the Indonesia International Motor Show (GIIAS 2026), held last July.
