'The Happy Life' Producer Cho Cheol-hyeon Dies While Battling Cancer at 67

[Financial News] Director Cho Cheol-hyeon, who produced many of director Lee Joon-ik's films and directed 'The King's Letters' (2019), died on the 8th. He was 67.
According to the film industry on the 8th, Cho had been receiving treatment after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer this past February and died early that morning.
Born in 1959, Cho left his mark on Korean cinema for about three decades, working across film development, production and screenwriting.
'The King's Letters' was a film Cho brought to fruition after years of researching and preparing materials related to the creation of Hangul. The historical drama depicts King Sejong's creation of Hunminjeongeum and stars Song Kang-ho, Park Hae-il and Jeon Mi-seon. The late Jeon Mi-seon, who played Queen Soheon, won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2019 Korean Film Producers Association Awards for her role in the film.
He served as a director and managing director at Cineworld, then founded Tiger Pictures and became its CEO. He contributed to the production, planning and screenwriting of Lee Joon-ik's 'Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield' (2003), 'Blades of Blood' (2010) and 'Battlefield Heroes' (2011), and wrote the screenplay for 'The Throne' (2015). He also produced director Yook Sang-hyo's 'Hi! Dharma 2: Showdown in Seoul' (2004), as well as Lee Joon-ik's 'The Happy Life' (2007) and 'Sunny' (2008), bringing a diverse range of films to audiences.
Director Yook Sang-hyo expressed sorrow over Cho's death, recalling on social media, “He was exceptionally intelligent, with a particularly keen eye for screenplays,” and, “He was gentle-hearted like a child.”
The wake will be held in Room 303 of the funeral hall at Korea University Anam Hospital. The funeral procession is scheduled for 7 a.m. on the 10th, and the burial site is Seoul Memorial Park.
