The range of services offered by the prepaid funeral service industry, once centered on funerals, is expanding to cover the entire life cycle, including weddings, travel and healthcare. Companies are taking advantage of the long-term nature of prepaid funeral contracts to connect with customers before a funeral is needed and offer them more options to switch to other lifestyle services as needed.
According to industry sources on the 8th, Woongjin PreedLife Co., Ltd. ranked first in the prepaid funeral service category of the 2026 National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI). It has now ranked first for two consecutive years, following a tie for first place in the category last year.
Woongjin PreedLife Co., Ltd. has recently been focusing on expanding services beyond funerals. Subscribers to some of its prepaid funeral plans can switch to services such as weddings, cruises, language study abroad, first-birthday celebrations, longevity birthday celebrations, home healthcare, burial sites, matchmaking and golf packages. The services available for conversion vary by plan, and using a conversion service ends the existing prepaid funeral contract.
Given that a long time may pass before customers use funeral services, these conversion services can be seen as a way to connect with them before a funeral is needed. The industry is seeking to expand prepaid funeral plans, traditionally services paid for in advance and limited to funerals, into life-care services covering the entire life cycle.
Woongjin PreedLife Co., Ltd. is broadening its services beyond travel and weddings to include home healthcare, senior monitoring and cell preservation. It also offers services connected to everyday life, such as pet care and home care.
In its core funeral business, the company is strengthening its competitiveness by connecting every stage of the service. It provides services ranging from pre-funeral consultations and arrangements to the funeral procession and memorial services afterward, and also operates its directly managed funeral home brand, “Shillakwon.”
Woongjin PreedLife Co., Ltd.’s moves show that the focus of competition in the prepaid funeral service industry is broadening from the quality of funeral services alone to the range of services customers can use throughout their lives. As this is an industry in which companies must maintain long-term contractual relationships, providing customers with a variety of experiences before a funeral is becoming increasingly important.
Moon Ho-sang, CEO of Woongjin PreedLife Co., Ltd., said, “We will continue to provide differentiated services as a total life-care platform that supports customers throughout their lives, extending beyond funerals to weddings, travel, healthcare and more.”
