Markets are focused on U.S. long-term Treasury yields. Yields have recently been rising amid geopolitical uncertainty stemming from the Middle East. According to foreign media reports, a Panama-flagged tanker was also attacked in the Strait of Hormuz recently, injuring around 10 people. As a result, the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note topped 5.36% intraday on the 7th local time, reaching its highest level since 2002. The 30-year Treasury yield also climbed to around 5.73%, its highest level in 24 years.
All three major New York stock indexes fell in unison. On the 7th local time, the S&P 500 fell 17.16 points (0.22%) to 7,801.77, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 51,179.87, down 341.41 points (0.66%) from the previous session. The tech-heavy Nasdaq ended the session down 61.20 points (0.22%) at 27,538.69.
The Crypto Fear and Greed Index provided by CoinMarketCap stood at 60 that day, indicating “Greed.” The index ranges from 0 to 100: readings closer to 0 are interpreted as “Extreme Fear,” while those closer to 100 indicate “Extreme Greed.”
At the same time, Ethereum was trading around $2,582, down 4.07% from 24 hours earlier. Ripple was trading around $1.42, down 4.55%.
