[Financial News] Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the first South Korean company ever to exceed 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit, was trading lower early on the 8th.
According to the Korea Exchange, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. was trading at 267,000 won, down 0.56% from the previous session, on the main board at 9:37 a.m.
At the same time, SK hynix was trading at 1,733,000 won, up 0.64% from the previous session.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. disclosed that its consolidated operating profit for the third quarter of this year was provisionally estimated at 107.4 trillion won, up 782.5% from the same period last year. This is the first time a South Korean company has exceeded 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit.
However, U.S. Treasury yields surged again overnight, sending all three major stock indexes lower on Wall Street. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 1.15%, apparently dampening investor sentiment toward semiconductor stocks.
Global investment bank Goldman Sachs also forecast that share-price volatility could increase as several factors coincide: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.'s earnings announcement, the rebalancing of seven semiconductor exchange-traded funds (ETFs) worth a total of 19 trillion won, options expiration, and the end of share buybacks.
