[Financial News] Business leaders at the helm of the U.S. information technology (IT) industry, including SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, will receive the nation’s highest honors.
Fox News reported on the 7th (local time) that President Donald Trump is set to host an event at the White House on the 8th (local time) called the “Science: A New Golden Age Summit” and present the National Medal of Science to Musk, Nvidia CEO Huang and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and Michael Dell, who heads Dell Technologies, will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
These are the highest honors in science and technology, and this will be the first time President Trump has personally presented them.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Liz Huston said, “The Trump administration appreciates the contributions of outstanding leaders in science and technology,” adding, “They are helping the United States continue to lead innovation around the world.”
Fox reported that Musk’s inclusion on the list of honorees showed that his relationship with President Trump had been fully restored.
Musk was once a close associate of President Trump and even led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), but the two had a major falling-out over a tax-cut bill in June last year, and their relationship deteriorated to the point that they traded barbs on social media (SNS).
However, speculation that the two had reconciled arose in November last year after Musk attended a welcome dinner for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and exchanged greetings with President Trump. Their relationship was subsequently confirmed to have been restored through Musk accompanying Trump on his visit to China in May this year and, more recently, attending the state dinner during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States.
