[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump, who is known for favoring luxury suits, has drawn attention after being spotted wearing a suit from a mid-priced brand at a midterm election rally.
On the 8th, Yonhap News reported, citing the U.S. current-affairs magazine Newsweek and other sources, that President Trump opened his suit jacket at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, on the 5th (local time), revealing the brand name attached inside.
The suit was a Jos. A. Bank product, a brand under Tailored Brands, a menswear retailer. Jos. A. Bank sells suits at a range of prices, from affordable options priced at $149.99 (about 201,000 won) to suits costing $700 (about 940,000 won).
The price of the suit President Trump wore at the rally was not confirmed, but the fact that he wore a suit from a mid-priced brand has become a talking point, given that he is known for favoring luxury brands.
Trump previously received sponsorship from Italian luxury brand Brioni while hosting the reality TV show The Apprentice in the 2000s, and is said to have favored Brioni suits afterward. Brioni sells suits priced from $5,500 (about 7.37 million won) to more than $16,000 (about 21.44 million won).
Some online commentators have also said that the fact that some Jos. A. Bank products are made in China and Bangladesh runs counter to President Trump's policy of making the revival of domestic manufacturing his top national priority.
Menswear writer Derek Guy wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “All Jos. A. Bank suits are made overseas,” adding, “They’re usually made in countries like China or Bangladesh.” He continued, “I’m curious why Trump chose an inexpensive imported suit instead of an American-made one.”
Democratic communications official Josh Donner criticized Trump on X, writing, “In the middle of the massive trade war he himself launched, Trump is boasting about the label on a suit that wasn’t made in the United States.”
