[Financial News] Two days before this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate is announced, on the 7th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump once again expressed his hopes of winning, saying he was fully deserving of the prize.
Trump said at the White House that day, “I don’t know how they (the Nobel Peace Committee) will decide,” adding, “They have a reputation for not giving the prize to people like me.”
He continued, “Whether I receive the prize or not, I’ve done much more,” and said, “If they don’t give me the prize, it would be a great discredit to them.”
Trump said he had resolved eight wars, saved millions of lives and rescued hostages, adding, “I’ve done things no one else has done. I’m not bragging; I’m just stating facts.”
He also claimed that by preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons, “I may have prevented the complete destruction of the world.”
Referring to former President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said, “Obama did nothing, but he got the prize,” adding, “He still doesn’t know why he received it, does he?”
He also brought up the fact that María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and last year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, gave him her Nobel medal, and said Machado had told him, “No one is more deserving of this award than President Trump.”
He also claimed that his tariff policy had contributed to peace, saying, “I prevented many wars from breaking out by using the power to impose tariffs and various other measures as threats against certain countries.”
Trump has claimed that during the armed clash between India and Pakistan last May, he pressured both countries by threatening to impose steep tariffs of 250% on them, bringing about a ceasefire.
