[Financial News]  A quick-thinking elementary school student called 112 pretending to order jajangmyeon from a Chinese restaurant, prompting police to respond to a domestic violence scene and prevent further harm.
According to Yonhap News and other outlets on the 7th, Ansan Sangnok Police Station in Gyeonggi Province received a 112 emergency call at around 6:08 p.m. on the 4th from a multi-family home in Sangnok-gu, Ansan.
The caller was a 9-year-old elementary school student. The child explained how many family members were at home and said, in effect, that they wanted someone to order one bowl of jajangmyeon.
As the child continued speaking with police and calmed down, they revealed what was happening inside the home, saying, “Dad is trying to hit Mom,” and that their parents were arguing in the living room. The child’s 5-year-old sibling was also reportedly at home at the time.
Police arrived at the scene at around 6:11 p.m., about three minutes after receiving the call, and had A, the child’s father, a man in his 40s, voluntarily accompany them. They then booked him on suspicion of special assault and violating the Child Welfare Act.
Police applied the relevant charges, alleging that A assaulted his wife by hitting her on the shoulder with an electric fan and pushing her during an argument, and determining that assaulting and swearing at her in front of their two young children constituted emotional child abuse.
To prevent further harm, police ordered A to leave the residence and imposed an interim measure barring him from approaching the victim within 100 meters.
A police official said, “It appears the child used their quick thinking to make it sound as if they were ordering jajangmyeon so their call to the police wouldn’t be discovered.”
Meanwhile, police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident based on the victim’s statement.
