[Financial News] A wound has been found near the snout of ‘Bukangi,’ the shark staying in an artificial channel at Busan North Port Waterfront Park. It is thought to have been scraped against structures in the channel or the bottom while moving abruptly in shallow water.
According to Yonhap News and the National Institute of Fisheries Science, among others, on the 8th, a wound has developed around the snout of Bukangi, identified as a female heuksangeo shark. Videos showing the injury are also circulating on social media (SNS).
There is speculation that Bukangi may have suffered an abrasion after moving quickly while swimming in shallow water and colliding with structures in the channel or its bottom. Earlier, a video was posted on social media showing Bukangi twisting its body along the edge of the channel after some visitors shone flashlights at it at night.
Experts are investigating the possibility that the wound occurred during this kind of movement. Ji Hwan-seong, a researcher at the National Institute of Fisheries Science, told Yonhap News, “If a shark is wounded, bacterial infections can spread, which is dangerous.” He added, “We are continuing to monitor Bukangi’s health.”
It has been reported that no unusual signs have been observed in Bukangi’s swimming so far.
