[Financial News] The Blue House said on the 7th that President Lee Jae-myung’s recent increase in social media (SNS) activity “appears to show his willingness to communicate actively with the public.”
A Blue House official gave this answer when asked by reporters that day whether aides had also conveyed their views, amid concerns raised in the media about the president’s social media activity.
The official said, “Social media activity has picked up somewhat recently, and it is also true that the president’s approval rating on his handling of state affairs has fallen somewhat. I think this appears to show his willingness to communicate actively with the public about those matters.”
The official added, “The president seems to believe that some misunderstandings have built up,” and explained, “The president seems to view the current situation as urgent.”
The official also emphasized that communicating through social media itself is a longstanding practice.
The official said, “It is true that he has consistently communicated with the public and promoted policies through social media from his time as mayor of Seongnam, through his tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province, and until he became president. It is nothing new.”
The official added, “The president seems to believe that if the public has those misunderstandings, he should communicate actively with them to clear them up, and that the achievements of policies and the like over the year and four months since taking office need to be conveyed somewhat more accurately. You can think of his active social media activity as being aimed at those matters.”
However, the Blue House said it would be difficult to disclose whether aides had made recommendations or how the president had responded to them.
