【Financial News, Ulsan — Reporter Choi Soo-sang】 Ulju County Chief Lee Soon-geul announced the direction and key projects of the ninth elected term’s pledges on the 7th, marking 100 days since taking office.
The county chief held a press conference that day at the Ulju County Office press center and said the county had finalized 126 pledge projects under the goal of “Happiness Ulju 2.0, Woven into My Life” and would begin implementing them in earnest.
The county chief explained, “The pledges for the ninth elected term focus on creating changes that Ulju County residents can directly experience in their daily lives, building on the achievements and foundations established during the eighth elected term.”
The total project cost is estimated at around 1.8 trillion won. Ulju County plans to spread the financial burden by actively drawing on national and city funds, competitively funded projects, private investment and other sources, rather than implementing all the pledges using county funds alone.
The plans include 34 projects in education and daily-life welfare, totaling 402.5 billion won; 13 projects in the economy, across small business, youth and new industries, totaling 61.7 billion won; 39 projects in everyday sports, culture and tourism, totaling 515.7 billion won; and 40 projects in the integrated city category covering transportation, housing and industry, totaling 821.3 billion won.
Key pledges drawing attention include establishing regional care centers and children's growth cafeterias; introducing “1,000-won simple breakfast meals” for middle and high school students; expanding the provision of city gas, small LPG storage tanks and tap water in rural areas; setting up the 18-billion-won Ulju Youth Startup Growth Fund; building the Southern Regional National Sports Center and Cheonsang Sports Center; creating a cultural space at Unyang Fortress; establishing a multipurpose cultural and arts space at Geomdan Elementary School; building the Ganjeolgot Botanical Garden; introducing AI-based demand-responsive bus taxis (DRT) in rural areas; and developing the former Unyang Bus Terminal site.
