【Financial News, Chuncheon—Kim Gi-seop】More than 100 businesses, including famous bakeries, dessert shops and flea-market vendors, will set up a marketplace in the forest at Elysian Gangchon in Chuncheon to welcome autumn visitors.
According to Elysian Gangchon on the 7th, the fifth Forest Bread Market will be held across the Elysian Gangchon grounds on the 18th. Now in its fifth edition, the event will be staged as a new kind of autumn festival built around two pillars: the forest and bread. The idea is to offer more than a gathering of bakeries selling bread—to let visitors taste bread in the forest and experience spending time there.
Renowned bakeries and dessert shops that are not usually easy to come across will set up at the venue, each offering its own breads and desserts. With a flea market joining them, more than 100 businesses are taking part. Visitors can enjoy comparing and choosing breads from different shops in one place, along with views of the forest as its leaves turn color.
The biggest change this year is the role of the forest. Elysian Gangchon is partnering with Geombongsan People’s Forest to operate a separate special venue for forest experience programs. The forest, which had previously served merely as a backdrop to the event, has been made part of the experience, with visitors able to walk through it, touch it and feel it for themselves.
Families visiting can plan a relaxed day out. The children can take part in forest experience programs while the adults stroll along the forest trails and then take a break over bread and desserts in a rest area. The organizers say they aim to change the way people enjoy bread by bringing into the forest the familiar routine of choosing bread in front of a bakery display.
“The unique appeal of the Forest Bread Market is that people come to buy bread and end up discovering unexpected autumn forest scenery as well,” an Elysian Gangchon representative said. “With more than 100 businesses taking part in this year’s fifth edition, there will be even more enjoyment in choosing what to eat.” The representative added, “The experience program we prepared with Geombongsan People’s Forest lets visitors enjoy the forest with all five senses, rather than just looking at it. We will grow it into an autumn festival that brings bread and the forest together in one memory and makes people want to return year after year.”
