【Financial News, Iksan = Gang In, Staff Writer】 Iksan City in Jeonbuk Province is accelerating policy implementation with the goal of an “Iksan Great Transformation.”
Iksan Mayor Choi Jeong-ho held a press conference marking his 100th day in office on the 7th and outlined a mid- to long-term development vision to lead the city into the future.
The city plans to put nine public-private partnership councils into operation to carry out priority tasks aimed at resolving pending issues, pursue strategic projects linked to central government and Jeonbuk Province policies, and drive innovation in municipal administration.
Iksan City is operating nine public-private partnership councils to find solutions to local issues. The Iksan City Fiscal Transformation Task Force is discussing ways to cut inefficient spending and reinvest the savings in people’s livelihoods and future growth. The Iksan Station and Old Downtown Revitalization Task Force is seeking ways to revitalize the old downtown by linking Iksan Station with the commercial, cultural, tourism and youth functions of Jungang-dong. The Together Toward the Future Physical AI Task Force is exploring ways to combine AI technology with local industries such as food, agri-bioscience, agricultural machinery and biotechnology. The city is also operating the Local Food Citizen Link Council, the Iksan Sports Re:Born Council, the Iksan K-Culture Hub Task Force, the Together Green Iksan Council, the Future Industry Transformation and Investment Attraction Task Force, and the Youth-Friendly City Task Force.
Iksan City will now move ahead in earnest with key projects across sectors including industry, transportation and urban space; agri-bioscience and food; and culture and tourism. It plans to foster future growth engines such as Physical AI and semiconductors, flesh out a development strategy that builds on Iksan’s strengths, and bring change to the city as a whole.
The city will boost the competitiveness of its key local industries—food, agricultural machinery and biotechnology—by incorporating AI and robotics and aligning them with the government’s Physical AI strategy. Through a research project to establish a master plan for the AI industry, it will develop a strategy for fostering the sector tailored to Iksan’s industrial conditions. It will also identify national projects and seek designation as a mobile robot promotion zone, developing Iksan into a city specializing in next-generation Physical AI.
The city also plans to step up efforts to establish a specialized complex for semiconductor materials, components and equipment, a sector experiencing a global boom. By leveraging the area’s strengths in living conditions, including housing, medical care and education, it aims to attract investment from related companies and encourage skilled professionals to settle in the region.
Iksan Mayor Choi Jeong-ho said, “I am deeply grateful to everyone who has joined forces to help advance Iksan,” adding, “We will build on Iksan’s strengths in transportation, industry, agri-bioscience and food to bring about changes that residents can feel. We will press ahead with the Iksan Great Transformation without wavering, building a city with jobs, a region people want to visit, and an administration that serves its citizens.”
