[Financial News] Hyundai Asan has rebuilt a public hospital in the Philippines.
Hyundai Asan said it had completed a Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)-commissioned project to rebuild a public hospital in Eastern Samar, Philippines, and opened the Guiuan Felipe Abrigo Public Hospital. The hospital has 50 beds across two buildings: a main building and an outpatient building.
Over the past two years, Hyundai Asan served as the project management consultant (PMC), overseeing the project as a whole, including the development of hospital infrastructure, obtaining permits and approvals, and procuring equipment. In a consortium with Ewha Womans University’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, it also arranged training visits to Korea and practical training for Filipino medical staff, laying the groundwork for the hospital to operate independently.
The hospital held its opening ceremony on the 7th (local time). It will begin seeing patients the following day. Around 650 people attended, including Jeong Yeong-seon, head of KOICA’s Philippine office, Eastern Samar Governor Evardone, and legislative officials. Before the ceremony, on the 25th of last month, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also visited the site and expressed his gratitude to Korean officials.
Hyundai Asan said, “We hope this will serve as an opportunity to build a sustainable healthcare system in local communities in the Philippines,” adding, “We will do our utmost to ensure the project’s outcomes take root by carrying out local capacity-building training without a hitch through the end of this year.”
Since entering the official development assistance (ODA) sector in 2010, Hyundai Asan has carried out 117 aid projects in around 40 countries, including the public hospital in the Philippines. It is currently working on 14 projects in 10 countries.
