Shinhan Asset Management said it listed the SOL Global DRAM Semiconductor Plus ETF on the KOSPI market on the 7th. As a domestically listed ETF, it can also be used to invest in the global memory industry through pension accounts.
The fund consists of 10 stocks from South Korea, the United States and Japan, including memory, storage and semiconductor equipment companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Micron Technology, Inc. It extends to global markets the domestic semiconductor investment strategy of the SOL AI Semiconductor TOP2 Plus ETF, launched in the first half of this year.
Approximately 75% of the portfolio is invested in the three leading global DRAM companies. The remaining 25% includes NAND flash manufacturers SanDisk Corporation and KIOXIA Corporation; HDD makers Seagate Technology and WDC; and semiconductor equipment companies Applied Materials, Inc., Lam Research and KLA Corporation (KLA).
The fund invests across the memory and storage devices needed for AI infrastructure, from high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and conventional DRAM to NAND flash, solid-state drives (SSDs) and HDDs. By also including equipment companies, it reflects demand for capital investment driven by memory manufacturers’ capacity expansion and process improvements.
The manager believes that the expansion of AI data centers and the spread of inference services are increasing the importance of HBM and server DRAM, while growing data generation could also boost demand for high-performance SSDs and high-capacity HDDs. On the supply side, supply capacity may vary by product as HBM production expands and manufacturers transition to advanced processes, making manufacturers’ production capabilities and equipment companies’ competitiveness key investment factors as well.
Kim Jeong-hyeon, head of Shinhan Asset Management’s ETF Business Group, said, “Including storage and equipment companies alongside leading DRAM firms reflects how the effects of increased AI investment are extending across memory production, data storage and manufacturing equipment.” Kim added, “We have broadened the range of semiconductor investment options so that domestic investors can invest in the global memory industry’s long-term and medium-term growth through pension accounts as well.”
