[Financial News] Ewha Womans University has cemented its leading position in online higher education, producing the largest number of outstanding courses for four consecutive years in evaluations of the Korean Massive Open Online Course (K-MOOC) program, which includes universities and institutions nationwide.
Ewha Womans University said on the 7th that six of its courses had been selected for the 'Blue Ribbon,' an award for outstanding courses, in the '2025 K-MOOC Annual Evaluation' overseen by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education. This makes Ewha the university with the most Blue Ribbon courses for four consecutive years, from 2022 through 2025.
The Blue Ribbon is awarded to top-performing courses after an annual comprehensive evaluation of all K-MOOC courses, including course quality and student outcomes. This year, just 30 of the 1,557 courses nationwide were selected, with Ewha Womans University courses accounting for six—one-fifth of the total.
In particular, Ewha Womans University's accumulated strength in educational content stood out this year, which marks the 10th anniversary of K-MOOC's launch. Of the 15 most popular courses nationwide across different fields, four were from Ewha—the most of any university in South Korea. Professor Lim Dong-seon’s course 'Children’s Amazing Language Acquisition' has been awarded a Blue Ribbon six times in total, making it the most frequently selected course nationwide. Professor Shin Gyeong-sik’s course 'The World of Big Data' ranked third in the number of students who registered and second in the number who completed it, establishing itself as a flagship course.
Ewha Womans University offers a range of courses tailored to the latest industry and social needs, going beyond the simple delivery of knowledge. This year's selected courses span cutting-edge technology, the humanities and health, and include 'Medical AI and Law' (Professor Lee Won-bok), as well as social network analysis, children's environmental health and the history of medieval exchange.
Over the next three years, Ewha Womans University plans to develop 12 new interdisciplinary courses combining artificial intelligence (AI) with the humanities, arts and other fields, and make them freely available to the public.
A representative of Ewha Womans University's Center for Educational Innovation said, “This is the result of steadily investing over the past 10 years to share excellent university lectures with society,” adding, “We will continue to develop high-quality courses suited to the rapidly changing educational environment and take the lead in sharing knowledge with society.”
