[Financial News] Meritz Securities is exploring ways to apply digital asset infrastructure to Korea’s capital markets in partnership with global blockchain company Ripple.
According to sources in the financial investment industry on the 7th, Meritz Securities signed a strategic partnership with Ripple on the 1st at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, concerning the introduction of digital assets in Korea. Meritz Securities CEO Jang Won-jae and Ripple President Monica Long, among others, attended the signing ceremony.
The two companies agreed to jointly explore ways to apply in the capital markets, within the limits permitted by Korean regulations, the tokenization infrastructure Ripple provides to global financial institutions and its institutional digital asset custody solution, Ripple Custody. They plan to gradually expand their areas of cooperation as Korea’s digital asset regulatory framework is developed.
Meritz Securities is currently reviewing businesses related to digital assets in preparation for their integration into the regulated financial system, including spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), fractional investment and token securities, trading platforms, and won-denominated stablecoins.
A Meritz Securities representative said, “This partnership has laid the groundwork for us to leverage Ripple’s global digital asset infrastructure alongside our capital markets capabilities,” adding, “We will gradually prepare safe and reliable digital asset financial services in response to changes in Korea’s regulatory framework.”
Fiona Murray, Ripple’s regional head for Asia Pacific (APAC), said, “It is meaningful to work with Meritz Securities, one of Korea’s leading financial institutions,” adding, “We will explore how digital asset infrastructure can support the continued development of Korea’s capital markets.”
Meanwhile, Ripple is expanding its cooperation with Korean financial firms. This year, it partnered with Kyobo Life to build settlement infrastructure for tokenized government bonds and is also providing K Bank with its institutional digital asset custody solution, Ripple Custody.
