[The Financial News] The musical “Dear Evan Hansen” (producers Seol Do-kwon and Shin Dong-won) is set to reach a new milestone: 200 performances by its Korean production.
According to organizer Clip Service and production company S&Co on the 7th, “Dear Evan Hansen” will reach 200 performances with its 2 p.m. show on the 9th. The milestone comes about two and a half years after its Korean premiere in 2024, during its second season.
The actors who have been with the production since its premiere will also reach their personal 100-performance milestones in succession. Kang Ji-hye (Zoe Murphy) will take the stage for her 100th performance at 7:30 p.m. on the 7th, and Shin Young-sook (Heidi Hansen) will do so at 1 p.m. on the 8th. Kim Sun-young (Heidi Hansen) will reach the milestone at 2 p.m. on the 9th, Ahn Si-ha (Cynthia Murphy) at 7 p.m. that same day, Jang Hyun-sung (Larry Murphy) at 7 p.m. on the 10th, and Yeom Hee-jin (Alana Beck) at 3 p.m. on the 11th. Notably, Kim Sun-young will mark both the Korean production’s 200th performance and her own 100th in the same show.
An event will also be held to mark the occasion. Audience members attending performances from today (the 7th) through the 10th will receive a commemorative poster for the 200th performance, signed by the entire cast.
“Dear Evan Hansen” tells the story of Evan Hansen, a boy who longs to connect with others amid anxiety and isolation, and follows his search for relationships, acceptance and his true self. The musical won six awards at the 71st Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book. Its artistic merit and popular appeal have also been recognized at major awards ceremonies around the world, including the Grammy Awards and the Laurence Olivier Awards. The Korean premiere likewise demonstrated the production’s merit, winning Best Musical (400 Seats or More) and the Producer Award at the 9th Korea Musical Awards.
This season, Park Kang-hyun, Lim Kyu-hyung and Na Hyun-woo will play Evan Hansen, with Kim Sun-young, Shin Young-sook, Jang Hyun-sung, Jung Dong-geun, Ahn Si-ha and Lim Min-young also in the cast. The musical will run at the Chungmu Arts Center Grand Theater through November 1.
