[Financial News] A photo showing several other trash bags taped to a pay-as-you-throw bag and shamelessly put out has sparked outrage among online users.
On the 5th, a photo was posted on the social media platform Threads with the caption, “If they collect this, Geoje City is something else. This isn’t right.” The photo showed a garbage bag someone had put out.
The problem is that transparent plastic bags and paper bags had been piled on top of the pay-as-you-throw bag and wrapped tightly with tape. It is presumed that the bags were stacked and put out this way to save on the cost of pay-as-you-throw bags.
As the post spread, online users also shared examples of shameless waste disposal. One user shocked others by sharing a photo of food waste stuffed into a regular trash bag and put out for collection. Another posted a photo of garbage-filled plastic bags tied together at the sides and put out, reporting, “It was even gone the next day—maybe they collected it.”
Under the Waste Management Act, people who fail to use pay-as-you-throw bags or violate waste-sorting rules may face administrative fines of up to 1 million won, depending on the local government. However, there are almost no clues identifying who put out garbage bundled with tape, making it difficult to hold anyone responsible.
