[Financial News] Kakao Entertainment Corp. is joining forces with Atlantic Music Group to nurture “K-pop super IP” aimed at the global market. The companies will jointly design global growth strategies for K-pop artists and collaborate across the entire process—from the early stages through music production, distribution and promotion.
Kakao Entertainment Corp. said on the 7th that it had signed a strategic partnership with Atlantic Music Group (AMG), a key music group under Warner Music Group.
The partnership focuses on combining Kakao Entertainment’s capabilities in the K-pop business with Atlantic Music Group’s global network. The plan is to enhance K-pop artists’ competitiveness in overseas markets by drawing on Atlantic Music Group’s experience.
Atlantic Music Group includes major labels such as Atlantic Records, 10K Projects and 300 Entertainment. Atlantic Records, in particular, works with world-renowned artists who are also popular in Korea, including Bruno Mars, Charli XCX, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, Cardi B and Miley Cyrus, and leads trends in the global music industry through its planning and production capabilities.
The two companies plan to create various synergies across K-pop artists’ global activities by building on their respective strengths. The key is that, rather than simply introducing K-pop music and artists to overseas markets, they will jointly design global strategies from the outset of their market entry, taking into account each IP’s musical identity, stage of activity and competitiveness in global markets.
Kakao Entertainment Corp. said, “This partnership is significant because we are bringing together the full capabilities of both companies to jointly discover the potential of K-pop artists and IPs and expand them in global markets.” It added, “Building on the expertise and networks each company has developed, we will broaden our points of contact with K-pop’s global fandom in various ways and continue to expand K-pop’s global influence.”
Meanwhile, Kakao Entertainment’s music labels include Starship Entertainment, IST Entertainment, Antenna and EDAM Entertainment (EDAM). It is also the second-largest shareholder in SM Entertainment. Kakao Corp. is the largest shareholder.
