[Financial News] A food culture festival where visitors can enjoy the diverse food cultures of Busan and the world in one place will be held in Busan. An international cooking competition featuring seafood will also take place.
The Busan Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that it will hold the 23rd Busan International Food Expo and the 9th Busan Marina Chef Challenge Competition simultaneously at BEXCO’s Exhibition Hall 1 for three days, from the 9th to the 11th.
Now in its 23rd edition, the Busan International Food Expo will be organized around the theme “A World Tour of Taste, Buru Mat Bul,” with visitors becoming the protagonists in a giant board game and traveling in search of diverse flavors from Busan and around the world. The entire venue will be laid out like one big board game, allowing visitors to experience the world’s diverse food cultures as they enjoy exhibits, food and hands-on programs.
The venue’s main areas will include the World Food Village, introducing food from around the world; Sweet Land, showcasing Busan’s bakeries; and Seafood Port, an area for seafood dishes. The event will also feature Experience School, a participatory program for visitors, and Delicious Dining, a premium dining space, as well as the Delicious Busan Zone, highlighting the appeal of Busan’s local food scene.
At the World Food Village, organizations and businesses from Japan, France, Italy and Vietnam will introduce their local food and cultures across a total of 230 booths. Busan restaurants will also take part in Delicious Dining, presenting special collaborative menus. On the 10th, Sogonggan, Shinbalwon and Samsong Sushi will participate; on the 11th, Sogonggan and Shunsai Kubo will offer visitors a different kind of dining experience.
A variety of cooking shows featuring well-known Korean chefs and national master craftspeople will run for all three days. On the 9th, Korean master chef Park Hyo-nam and Park Gi-seop of Busan’s Sogonggan, among others, will present the “Busan Ingredients Collaboration Cooking Show,” using ingredients from Busan. On the 10th, star chefs Sam Kim and Kwon Seong-jun will appear together in a star chef cooking show. On the 11th, Jo Seo-hyeong and Kwak Dong-hun will present the “Busan x Seoul Street Cooking Show,” using Hanwoo supplied by the Hanwoo Self-Sufficiency Management Committee.
The Busan Marina Chef Challenge Competition, an international culinary competition endorsed by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS), will also be held for the ninth time this year. A total of 600 people from Korea and abroad, including professional chefs and culinary students, will compete. The competition will feature individual and team live contests, an exhibition contest and a K-Food Festival. A total of 42 judges from Korea and abroad will assess the competitors according to international standards, including 18 overseas judges invited from Switzerland, China, Singapore, Mongolia and Norway.
