The People Power Party announced it would mount an all-out response during the parliamentary audit of 846 institutions, pledging to thoroughly examine policy failures and various corruption allegations involving the Lee Jae-myung government.
At a parliamentary audit strategy meeting held on the 6th, People Power Party Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Operations Kim Seung-su said, “This audit is a critical time to thoroughly uncover and examine the Lee Jae-myung government’s policy failures and corruption and other wrongdoing, hold those responsible to account, and put the Republic of Korea back on track.”
The People Power Party plans to focus its scrutiny on the government’s failures in each standing committee. The Legislation and Judiciary Committee is set to examine changes to the criminal justice system and issues involving the judiciary, while the Security and Public Administration Committee and the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will demand thorough measures to address public safety gaps and national security concerns.
The party also plans to strongly criticize the government’s incompetent response to issues directly affecting people’s livelihoods, including real estate issues before the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, pension and welfare issues before the Health and Welfare Committee, and disruption in the college admissions system before the Education Committee.
The audits of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Climate and Energy will examine whether mega-projects being pushed ahead recklessly are being rushed through without adequate preparation.
The senior deputy floor leader stressed, “Through this parliamentary audit, we will clearly hold those responsible to account for misguided policies and irresponsible attitudes,” adding, “We will also put forward practical alternatives and proposals for institutional improvements that the public can experience.”
