[Financial News] Hoban Construction has developed technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically generate resident-tailored building information modeling (BIM).
Hoban Construction said on the 7th that it had successfully developed AI-based technology to automatically generate BIM for each apartment unit (a 3D integrated architectural information design method). The technology was developed through joint research with Moldeu Korea, a startup specializing in automated architecture and interior design solutions. Moldeu Korea is a promising company that won an Excellence Award at the ‘2026 Hoban Next Startup Contest,’ held last May.
In the multifamily housing market, unit options have recently become more varied as consumers choose different finishes, interior designs and other features, even within the same housing type. As a result, the importance of management systems that accurately incorporate each household’s selections into on-site construction, without errors, has grown.
The core of the newly developed technology is that AI recognizes 2D apartment design drawings and automatically converts them into BIM, then matches them with actual residents’ option contract information to generate customized 3D models for all units in a single batch. Site managers can use the models to easily see the options selected for each household and where they are to be installed, effectively preventing omissions and incorrect installations during construction. The models can also be used extensively for quality verification.
The two companies completed a field test by applying the technology at the ‘Hoban Summit Pungmu’ site in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. Having created 3D finishing models for every unit that reflect the varied choices of prospective residents and verified the technology’s potential for on-site adoption, they plan to expand the use of the data to areas such as construction process management and quality inspections.
A Hoban Construction official said, “We can now manage option information, which varies from unit to unit, in a more systematic way and raise construction accuracy to a new level.” The official added, “We will continue to actively explore AI- and BIM-based smart construction technologies and accelerate their application on site.”
Meanwhile, Hoban Group is working to secure next-generation smart construction technologies through its open innovation strategy. Recently, it has been deploying AI technology that automatically calculates the required volume of ready-mix concrete and robots that inspect cracks in exterior walls at construction sites, working to improve both on-site efficiency and quality competitiveness.
